We cordially invite you to join the 25th TCFA Annual Conference. This TCFA signature event provides an outstanding platform for industry leaders, academic experts, regulators, and TCFA members to share thoughts on the latest developments in the global economy and financial markets. This year’s conference features a number of top experts and thought leaders, who will focus their discussions on four particular topics: What are the opportunities and challenges for foreign firms as China further opens up its financial sector? What are the opportunities and challenges for Chinese firms as they enter and/or operate in the US market? How will the Sino-US geo-political relationship affect China’s opening-up policy, the world trade order and the global economy? What are the new prospects for Fintech, AI and big data?
Amidst the ongoing trade tension between the U.S. and China, China has pledged to further open up its more than $40 trillion and fast growing financial sector and give foreign financial firms more access. China’s regulator in April 2018 began allowing overseas firms to apply for majority stakes in securities and mutual-fund management ventures. On March 24, 2019, PBoC Governor Yi Gang claimed that there is a lot of room for increased access, as the openness of China’s financial markets to the rest of the world isn’t high. In a speech on July 2nd 2019 Premier Li Keqiang said that China will scrap ownership limits for securities firms, futures businesses and life insurance companies by 2020, one year ahead of the original target of 2021. The take-up by foreign companies is gathering pace but concerns linger. In the meantime, Chinese leaders have also expressed strong desire to promote two-way opening as a way to enhance China’s global competitiveness.
